Sifu Tony began his martial arts journey with Taekwondo during his high school years. Upon entering West Point, the United States Military Academy, he expanded his experience by practicing Tang Soo Do and Judo. He also boxed for four years and wrestled for one year. At West Point, Tony’s military training included Close Quarters Combat and Advanced Close Quarters Combat. After graduation, he attended several specialized schools: Airborne, Ranger, Pathfinder, Sapper, and SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, & Escape) Training. Additionally, he earned both his Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB) and Expert Rifleman qualification.
During his military service, Tony was deployed in the 1st Gulf War, the Somalia Conflict, and in challenging locations such as Honduras and Israel. Between deployments, he studied Kempo. For the past 26 years, Tony has focused on Kung Fu under the tutelage of Grand Master Norman Smith. He initially practiced Hung Gar for two years before transitioning to Tai Chi. Under SiGung Norman, Tony learned Yang Style 10, 16, 24, and 40 Step Open-Hand Forms; 32 Step Sword; 18 and 32 Fan Forms; and 48 & 42 Open-Hand and Sword Combination Step Forms, blending elements from the Yang, Sun, Wu, and Chen styles. Within the Yang Family system, he studied the traditional 108 Step and 52 Straight Sword Forms and has also explored the Sun Family 98 Form and 62 Straight Sword Forms.
Tony continues to refine his skills learning various QiGong sets, including 8 Pieces of Brocade, 5 Element QiGong, Wudang 5 Animal, Coiling, 5 Animal Frolics, Moving 10, and SaBaShi. He remains dedicated to studying the martial applications of Tai Chi Chuan, especially techniques like Fa-Jing and Push Hands. Besides teaching meditation and guided meditation,
Sifu Tony is currently learning Chen Style Tai Chi with SiGung Norman. His Chinese studies also include Bak Mei, Wing Chun, Tien Shan Pai, and Mantis Style Kung Fu.
